Le violoncelliste de renom Jan Vogler a rencontré Eric Clapton l'année précédente à Londres et l'a invité à se produire en tant qu'invité vedette à son festival annuel de musique classique à Dresde.
Vogler est connu pour toujours inviter des musiciens d'autres genres à se produire au festival.
À la demande d'Eric, le spectacle a eu lieu dans une salle de concert plutôt que dans une grande arène. La capacité de la Messe de Dresde est d'environ 4 000 personnes.
