Le premier Février 1978 à Vancouver en Colombie Britannique au Canada débute la première série de concerts du "Slowhand Tour USA Canada" destiné à promouvoir les ventes du cinquième album solo de Clapton.
L’album intitulé d'après l’un des surnoms de Clapton est sorti le 25 Novembre 1977 de l’année précédente chez RSO qui est déjà très bien accueilli par le public et la critique.
Le groupe se compose de E. Clapton, G. Terry, D. Sims, C. Radle, J. Oldaker et M. Levy (Yvonne Elliman qui chantait sur les sessions a quitté le groupe pour entamer une carrière solo)
La première partie est assurée par John Martyn, l’auteur de "May You Never" qui a été repris par Clapton sur Slowhand.
Le 5 Avril c’est à Springfield dans le Massachusetts qu’est enregistré "ERIC CLAPTON - SPRINGFIELD 1978 " Un bootleg soundboard proposé par Beano sous le n° 182 l’ensemble des titres se trouve sur deux CD
